Description

SUMMARY, EXPLANATION AND LIMITATIONS:
Three isoforms of neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) are produced by differential splicing of the RNA transcript from a single gene.  The 135kDa isoform is the basic molecule which is glycosylated or sialylated to produce the mature species. NCAM (CD56) is reported to express on most neuroectodermal derived cell lines, tissues, and neoplasms such as retinoblastoma, medullblastoma, astrocytoma, and neuroblastoma.  It is also expressed on some mesodermally derived tumors such as rhabdomyosarcoma and also on natural killer cells.

Clone: 56C04
Isotype: IgG1/kappa
Immunogen: Membrane preparation of small-cell lung carcinoma.
Staining pattern: Cell membrane, sometimes cytoplasmatic.
Positive control: Tissue sample from small-cell lung carcinoma, neuroblastoma or appendix.

APPLICATIONS:
This antibody is designed for the specific localization of human CD56 using IHC techniques in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
This antibody is useful for the determination of neuroectodermal tumors and particularly for the delimitation of residual neuroblastoma. Immunohistochemical detection of CD56 allows identification of carcinomas of small cell lung, which react almost always positive and almost all tumor cells.
