SUMMARY, EXPLANATION AND LIMITATIONS:
This antibody recognizes 21-24kDa proteins, identified as A and B subunit of the S-100 protein. S-100 protein belongs to the calcium binding family, such as calmodulin and troponin C. S-100A subunit is composed by α and β chains, although S-100B subunit is composed by two β chains. The antibody against S-100 stains schwannomas, ependymomas, astrogliomas, almost every melanoma, both benign and malignant, such as its metastasis. S-100 protein is also expressed in antigen presenting cells, such as Langerhans skin cells and interdigitating reticular cells of paracortex or lymph nodes. This antibody is useful for the diagnose of histiocytosis X.
Immunogen: Purified S100 protein from bovine brain.
Staining pattern: Cytoplasmic.
Positive control: Tissue sample from melanoma or schwannoma.
This antibody is designed for the specific localization of human S-100 using IHC techniques in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
This antibody is useful for identifying malignant melanomas, neuroectodermal tumor and histiocytosis X.
